0 Out of 5 Stars, Horrible Experience, Nearly Died
Fears to Fathom: Woodbury Getaway is the fifth entry of this season of Fears to Fathom. In this horror game, you play as a woman named Sydney Harper, and deal with one of the worst things a woman can experience: men who can’t take no for an answer.
Sydney and her friends Mike and Nora are supposed to be taking a fun weekend trip to Woodbury, Vermont. Booking a cabin online for a cheap price is the way to go, right? But be careful who you trust. And don’t go prying in the basement…

Coffee Break
You start out in Sydney’s office building, at her desk. Sydney needs some coffee to get through the night, so get up. Walk to the left and you should find the kitchen area. The coffee machine is in the back. Here’s how to make the coffee and get an achievement while doing so.
- Pick up a Keurig cup next to the machine and put it inside the compartment at the top.
- Take a cup and get some water from the sink.
- Pour the water into the machine.
- Place the cup at the bottom.
- While the coffee is pouring, get some creamer and mix it in for the Caffeinated and Creamy achievement.
Once the coffee is done, put the lid on it and drink it.

Bathroom Surprise
After the coffee break, it’s time for the traditional Fears to Fathom bathroom break. The bathrooms are to the left of the kitchen behind a door. Pick a stall and sit down. After you’re done, try to walk out, and you’ll be jumpscared by the janitor. Talk to him, then head back to your desk.

We Really Should Read Those Reviews
At your desk, you should get a call from your friend Mike about renting a cabin. Use the computer to search for one that costs less than $100, and you’ll only see one. Unfortunately, you can’t read the reviews, which seem rather low in stars.
You can also play Type Invader or mess with the spreadsheet here. If you beat Type Invader with 70 HP or more, you’ll get the Type Master achievement.
Once you’re ready to move on, book the cabin by clicking the button. The game will skip to two days later, when it’s time to leave.

Where My Hug At?
Two days later, you’ll be in the elevator, heading down to meet Mike. Talk with the man in the elevator if you’d like. You can also read through your texts. Once you’re at the ground floor, grab your suitcase and leave the elevator. Mike will pull up with his red pickup truck, demanding a hug.
Throw your stuff in the trunk, then get in the truck. Mike will talk to you while you ride. Eventually, you’ll stop at Moe’s pizzeria for some food.

A Meal at Moe’s
Get out of the car. If you want to make Mike wait, you can mess with the ATM out here and drain your bank account or grab a soda from the vending machine. When you’re ready, go inside; he held the door for you.
You can watch the TV in here to catch a cameo from YouTubers CaseOh and ImDontai, playing newscasters. There are also some interesting commercials. Also, there’s the Talkative achievement you can get in the pizzeria by talking to everyone. Talk to the guy behind the counter to order 3 slices of pizza. Pick any flavors you’d like. After you’re done, sit down.
Make awkward conversation with Mike, then a hitchhiker will come over and confront you for a ride. However you choose to respond, Mike will say no. Finish your pizza and press the right mouse button to burp at Mike. After you’re done, it’s time to go. This time, you’re driving.

On The Road Again
The time skips to 5:49 PM. Take a left at the first road fork, then drive through the covered bridge when you see it. While you’re driving, if you bump into stuff, Mike will say some funny things about your lack of skill.
Keep following the road and you should pass the Woodbury sign. Right after that, you’ll find the house on your left at 241 Woodbury Blvd. Park the car, and grab your stuff from the trunk.
On the porch, you can use the code that Rick texted you to open the lockbox next to the front door. Take the key and enter.

Home Scary Home
As soon as you get in, Mike says he needs to hit the John. Dang, what did John do to him? In the meantime, you’ll need to unload the groceries. Put your bag down and pick up the cooler. At the fridge, set it down and open it, and put the contents in the fridge. You can also turn on the TV to listen to more hilarious commercials.
Once the groceries are put away, Mike will conveniently be done with the bathroom. Talk to him, then tell him you need to use the bathroom. Go in and try not to die from the smell. Text Rick while you’re peeing, then flush and wash your hands. When you exit the bathroom, it’s time to explore the house.
The small room connected to the living room has board games on the shelf. You can also look in the basement. When you’re done with the first floor and the basement, go upstairs and open the first door on your left.

Rick’s Magical Mystery Tour
You’re immediately jumpscared by Rick, the homeowner. He was fixing the TV in your room. Rick offers to give you a tour, so you’ll be following him around from here. After some spooky commentary about the basement, a visit to the balcony, and him calling you a pretty girl, he’ll leave the house.
Once Rick is gone, it’s time for you to take a shower and wash the creepiness away. Go upstairs and use the shower that Rick compared to an Amazon waterfall.

Catching Carp, Catching Achievements
When you’re done with your shower, go back downstairs. Mike wants to go fishing in the creek behind the house. He has a special carp recipe, so you’ll need to catch three of them for you, Mike, and Nora. To catch carp, use cheese or corn as bait.
There is also an achievement for catching a Northern Pike, but you’ll need to grab the crankbait for that. It took me 30 minutes before the RNG gods smiled upon me, so be prepared for a grind. If you manage to get one, you’ll get the Reel Success achievement.
Out here, there’s also a basketball hoop. Dunk a ball in the hole to get the secret Kobe achievement. When you’re done with everything outside, talk to Mike to bring your fish inside.

Baking With Mike
It’s time to cook. Mike will give you a recipe for the fish marinade, as seen in the picture above. The yogurt is in the fridge, the salt and pepper are in front of you, and the rest of the ingredients are on the shelves to the right. The olive oil is on the top shelf, in case you can’t find it. While you’re doing that, he’ll cut the fish.
After you’ve made the marinade, you’ll put it and the fish into the casserole dish, while Mike chops vegetables. Put everything into the dish and take the vegetables from Mike. Then slide it into the oven to cook.
Now that that’s done, Mike wants to play a board game before dinner.

A Perfectly Innocent Board Game
You have two options for the board game: the Ouija board, or Tower Stack. I picked the Ouija board to make it creepier, but the Tower Stack game is fun too. Mike will veto anything else.
If you pick the Ouija board, you’ll play down in the basement and turn the lights off. Eventually, you’ll hear some noises from the “No Access to Guests” room. Mike will run off like a coward without even saying goodbye to the ghost. He leaves you alone with whatever’s down there, and you get into a small fight over it.
For Tower Stack, you’ll pick a block to remove and play a minigame where you draw a shape to pull the block out. Slip out of the lines, and the tower will fall. Do your best to beat Mike! After two rounds, you can move on or keep playing.

Dinner and a Show
After your game of choice, it’s dinner time. Grab yourself a plate of carp and turn the TV on. Sit down with Mike and eat your delicious dinner while watching someone make ramen with… gasoline?! You may recognize YouTuber Berleezy as Jeffrey the chef. When the show’s over, grab Mike’s plate and go wash the dishes. Suddenly, you’ll get some texts from Mike. There’s someone under his bed! Go upstairs and find him!

Hide And Seek
It’s been a while, so you’ll get another jumpscare. Mike was just pranking you. For your next activity, it’s time to play Hide And Seek.
Your first hiding spot will be in the basement. There is a door under the stairs. Open it and hide inside. In here, your device’s microphone will pick up sound, so stay quiet. Turning down the game volume will also help. After a while, he’ll come find you, and now it’s your turn to count.
Where do creepy dudes typically hide in horror games? Mike decided to hide in your bedroom closet. Go get him, and he’ll mention that there’s an attic entrance on the closet ceiling. He heard something up there. Take the stepstool next to the closet and move it so you can reach the attic door, then climb up.

Catching Strays
Go towards the back of the attic and you’ll find a cute little cat climbing around. Pet the cat, then go back down and roast Mike over this. He’ll begin another round of hide and seek as the seeker. This time, you’re hiding out in the backyard toolshed. Before you go out, though, grab the last carp from dinner and feed it to the cat for the Purr achievement.
Out in the shed, wait for Mike to find you, then count to 10. This is the last round of hide and seek before bed. Look in the upstairs bathroom to find a person you weren’t seeking.
Of course, Rick is here again, fixing the faucet with a hammer. Walk him out with Mike.

Mike Tries to Give Sydney Stockholm Syndrome
You wake up at 11:39 PM to a knock on your door. It’s Mike, and he wants to talk about something. After an awkward conversation where Mike tries to drive at go-kart speed out of the friend zone, a voice message from Nora saves you. She’s got a flat tire and she’s still 70 miles away.
Mike volunteers to go rescue Nora. Walk him to the door so you can make sure it’s locked. Now go back to sleep, alone in a house that’s already been entered by a stranger twice.

Karma’s Mean, And So Am I!
You wake up again to someone at the door. This late at night, it’s not likely to be someone with good intentions. Crouch by the door and make a loud noise into the microphone to get the Loud achievement.
Confront the man, but don’t open the door. It’s the hitchhiker from earlier, begging to come in. Tell him off and he’ll walk away. For some reason, after this you just decide to go back to bed.
A short while later, you reawaken to banging and screaming noises outside. You’ve got no choice but to text Rick for help. Wait a bit, and Rick will ring the doorbell. Let him in and talk to him.

We’re Safe Now… Right?
While Rick is standing by the fire warming his hands, you’ll get a terrifying text about the man in front of you.
Rick will begin moving closer to you. Eventually, you’ll need to confront him. He wants what’s his… This house, and you. Now the real action starts.
When he runs to the front door to break the handle, go downstairs into the basement and hide under the stairs. Turn your game volume down and stay quiet. Rick will look around for you, then leave through the “no access to guests” door. Only then is it safe to leave…

It’s Not Safe!
As you walk back up the stairs, Nora calls you, loudly ringing your phone. Rick hears it and comes back. Now you’ll need to sprint to your room upstairs. Quickly close the door behind you and hide in the closet. Again, don’t make noise or he will find you. Rick will eventually leave when the doorbell rings.
Once Rick leaves, you’ll need to act quickly. Open the closet door and grab the stepstool, then go back into the closet and shut the door. Climb into the attic and hide up there. Stay hidden until you get the text about 911. Then it’s safe to come down to the front door and reunite with your friends.
Now you’ve beaten the fifth episode of Fears to Fathom and earned Woodbury Getaway’s Survivor achievement! If you made it to the end without dying once, you’ll also get the Zero Deaths achievement. Congratulations!
